The colon frames the small intestine and is divided into ascending, transverse, descending, and sigmoid portions. It is anchored to the posterior abdominal wall by the Toldt fascia — a fusion fascia — and supported by the mesocolon transversum superiorly. Colonic mobility is clinically relevant in visceral osteopathy.
