The caecum is the blind-ending pouch at the beginning of the large intestine, situated in the right iliac fossa. The appendix vermiformis arises from its posteromedial wall. Both are covered by peritoneum visceral and connected to the posterior abdominal wall by the fascia extraperitonealis and peritoneum parietale.
